Sermon Scripture:  Mark 5:1-20
Picture
1. Tell what you were like: verses 1-5
  • No chain could bind him.
  • No one could live with him.
  • No one could help him.
  • He cried out night & day.
  • He cut himself with rocks.
2.  Tell what Jesus did for you: verses 6-15
  • Turning Point: He came to Jesus, humbled himself, asked for help
  • He was confused as to the purpose of Jesus, but not His power:
  • The man sought Jesus out, identified Him as the Son of God, and begged Him not to torture him.
  • Jesus dealt with the sin and the man differently.
          a)  The source of his sin in the man was destroyed. Legion was give to the pigs and they drowned.
          b)  The sinning soul of the man was put right. Sitting with Jesus, dressed, and in his right mind.
          c)  Although people may value their pigs more than your soul, Jesus loves you above anything except the love of
               the Father!
3.  Tell what your life is like now: verse 16-20
  • The change is real and lasting!
  • He desires to go with Jesus
  • He tells others about Jesus
  • He becomes a source of amazement
Application: Not everyone appreciates the work of Jesus in your life, but tell it anyway!
  • Some fear
  • Some reject
  • Some are amazed
  • Some have faith

Sermon Scripture:  Mark 1:29-39
Picture
1.  Jesus gathers to meet with His Disciples
  • At the Synagogue
  • In their homes
  • Continues after the resurrection and ascension. Acts 2:46 (temple courts and homes), Acts 21:26 (Paul in the Jerusalem Temple)
2.  Jesus leads his Disciples to minister to People
  • The physical needs of the sick.
  • The spiritual needs of the demon possessed!
  • The people who would respond!
          a)  Poor
          b)  Women
          c)  Spiritually Unclean people
3.  Jesus leaves his Disciples to prepare for further ministry to people!
  • Solitude is sometimes needed
  • Early and dark
  • Alone he prayed
  • Returned to preach
  • People missed him!
4.  Jesus launches from His retreat into His Preaching ministry with the Disciples!
  • Proclamation was primary!
  • Proclamation was not solitary!

Sermon Scripture:  Mark 1:14-34
Picture
1.  Urgent! Now is the time for God to rule your life!
  • The time is full!
  • The Kingdom is now!
  • The news is good!
2.  Dependent! You live under the rule of the Kingdom of God through Jesus Christ!
  • Repent!
          a)  Change your mind about your self-willed life!
          b)  Turn away from the current path of life! Turn to Jesus!
  • Believe the Good News!
          a)  Kingdom is available now!
          b)  Jesus is the way!
3.  Devotion! You demonstrate your belief by actually following Jesus! Verses 18, 20
  • Come! In order to come with him, they must leave behind the thing they were already doing!
  • Follow Me! The invitation involved a command! They were not only to leave and take a new direction. They entered a new relationship! Their direction was now determined by another, not themselves! Jesus was in control!
  • Devote yourselves to serve others! Their lives become focused on people as a purpose for life! Following Jesus was the same as serving others!
4.  Service! You must recognize the authority of the Master or you will fail!
  • Jesus had the authority to gather disciples! Verses 16-20
  • Jesus had authority to teach in the synagogue! Verses 21-22
  • Jesus had the authority to cast out impure spirits! Verses 23-27
  • Jesus had the authority to heal disease! Verses 28-34
5.  Community! You are not alone. Jesus keeps calling others to follow Him! 2:2, 4, 13-15
  • It’s not just about you!
  • You are part of something huge!
  • You have partners for the journey!
  • Some may hinder your efforts, others will help!
So What?
  • Now is the time!
  • Jesus is the way!
  • Serving others is the evidence!
  • Are you committed to Jesus today?
  • Are you committed to the community of Jesus’ followers today?
  • Are you serving others today?
