Sermon Scripture: Philippians 4:19-23

1. All Provision is according to the riches of God’s glory in Christ Jesus!

All your needs: Spiritual, physical, emotional
According to the riches of His glory
Glory in Christ Jesus

2. All Glory belongs to our God!

Glory to God
For ever and ever
Amen

3. All true fellowship is in Christ

Principle: Greet all saints in Christ Jesus!
Family of believers with me send you greetings!
All the saints here send greetings, especially those from Caesar’s house? In Christ those in Philippi could be one with those in the household of the Roman Emperor!

4. All the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ is available to our spirit!

Grace: good will, loving-kindness, favour
Spirit: a movement of air (a gentle blast), of the wind, hence the wind itself, breath of nostrils or mouth, the spirit, i.e. the vital principal by which the body is animated, the rational spirit, the power by which the human being feels, thinks, decides, soul
You have the favor of Jesus available to you to live for him!

So What?

Glorify God for His provision!
Repent of any rival to God’s position in your life!
Reconcile any broken relationship through the power of Christ!
Live in the full power of Jesus every day!

Sermon Scripture: Philippians 4:8-20

1. Think Higher! Verse 8

True
Noble
Right
Pure
Lovely
Admirable
Excellent
Praiseworthy
Whatever!!!!!

2. Receive Peace through integrating an active faith! Verse 9

Role models
Learned, received, heard, seen
Practice these things:
Whatever!!!!

3. Show your concern and compassion! Verses 10, 14-16

The needs of others are our opportunities to show God’s compassionate concern!
It becomes the cause of great rejoicing in the church
It is good when we share in the troubles of others.
Don’t think that someone else will do it!
It’s ok to help more than once when the need is ongoing!

4. Strength is available to bring your contentment! Verse 11-13

Whatever!!!!
Circumstances are not an excuse for discontentment!!! They change and can be great or horrible!
Contentment can be learned!
The secret of contentment is CHRIST’s strength!!!

5. Desire to have more credited to your account! Verses 17-18

The opportunity to do more for God is what matters!
It’s not about the money!
It is about the Mission!!!!
Fragrant offering, acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God!

6. Declare your confidence in God’s supply! Verses 19-20

Received full payment!
Amply supplied!
God will meet all your needs!!!
God will meet all your needs!!!
According to the riches of His glory
In Christ Jesus!

Sermon Scripture: Philippians 4:1-7

1. Description of those with whom we stand firm in the Lord: verses 1-3

Brothers and sisters
Love and long for
Joy and crown
Like minded
True companion
Fellow worker
Names in the Book of Life

2. Directions to those with which we stand firm in the Lord: verses 2-3

Plead to agree with one another
Pledge loyalty through helping one another
Prepare to contend together in the cause of the gospel

3. Delight of those with which we stand firm in the Lord: verses 4-5a

Rejoice in the Lord
Rejoice Always
Gentleness revealed to all!

4. Defense for those who stand firm in the Lord:

The Lord is our defense and He is near!
Anxiety is fruitless in all situation
Prayer, petition, with thanksgiving in all situation!
Present your requests to God
Peace of God will be yours!

a) Peace that is unexplainable/makes no sense!
b) Guards your heart and mind in Jesus!
So What?

Accept your true identity!
Commit to the real struggle!
Rejoice in the Lord!
Present your requests to God!

Pursuing Maturity in Christ

1. The Thoughts of the mature Christian! Verse 15

Are Goal Oriented!

a) Win the Prize for which you have been called heavenward
b) Know Jesus: Power of the resurrection and the fellowship of his suffering
c) Count everything else as loss in comparison!

Have the mind in you that was in Jesus!
Patient toward immature Christians!
Confident that God is willing to make Himself clearly known to ALL Christians!
Seeks the revelation of God’s view of the world. For us this is primarily through the understanding of the written Word of God!

2. The Actions of the mature Christian! Verse 16

Do what you already know to do!!!!
Sometimes maturity isn’t about knowing more but about doing more of what we know!

3. The Role Models of the mature Christian are intentionally and carefully chosen! Verse 17

Join together to help one another reach the goal!
Positive biblical examples are to be followed!
Contemporary examples and models are to be closely watched as a pattern of life!
Avoid walking alone in life!

4. The enemy of the mature Christian is anyone who is an enemy of the cross of Christ! Verses 18-19

Told often about them…
Told again with tears…
There are many of them
Their future is destruction!
Their god is their stomach!
Their Glory is their shame!
Their mind is set on earthly things!
Any philosophy of thought or religion that is opposed to salvation by faith in Christ alone!

5. The Focus of the mature Christian is on your heavenly citizenship! Verses 20-21

Enjoy your Heavenly citizenship
Eagerly await Jesus’ return! Our Savior, Lord, and Christ!
Will come with power to bring everything under His control!
Will transform our bodies and make them like his own!
