The Key to Happiness

Sermon Scripture: 1 Timothy 6:6-21

The Key to happiness is to fall devotedly and increasingly in love with Jesus Christ!

1. Avoid the influence of corrupt minded people: verse 5, 11, 21

Those who love who are robbed of contentment and think that godliness equals wealth
Reject godless chatter!
Flee! Get away fast!

2. Practice Contentment! 6-10

You didn’t have anything at birth and you will not have anything at death!
Food and clothing is what you have been promised! Everything else is grace!!!
Desire for wealth is a gateway to many kinds of evils!
It plunges into Ruin and Destruction.

3. Pursue godliness! 5-6, 11-20

Accept Jesus plus whatever He brings into your life through godly pursuits! If God brings you material wealth while you pursue Jesus wholeheartedly that is godly wealth. If wealth us your goal then you have misplaced priorities.
Fight the right fight
Take hold of salvation
Fidelity and Persevere until the end no matter what!
Command others not to trust in wealth
Be rich in good deeds
Be generous!
Invest in heavenly treasure!

4. Praise God! 15-16

Sincerely
Regularly
Spontaneously
Uniquely

Sermon Scripture: 1 Timothy 1:12-17
12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service. 13 Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. 14 The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.
15 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst.16 But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life.17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

1. Thank Jesus for who he is. Verse 12

Christ: anointed
Jesus: Jehovah is salvation
Lord: title of respect given to the owner or possessor of a thing

2. Thank Jesus for what he did. verse 12

Gives me strength
Considered me trustworthy
Appointed me to his service: diakonia, service of ministry to the needs of people
Showed me mercy

3. Thank Jesus for why he came. verse 15

Jesus came into the world to save sinners!
Shows mercy to even the worst
Patience toward those who would be saved

4. Thank Jesus for who you are. verse 13-16

Not what/who I was before: blasphemer, persecutor, violent man
Abundantly Anointed by Jesus with his:
The abundance is the possession of Christ himself.

1) Experience of sonship
2) Guarantee of eternal life
3) Desire for holiness

Example of Jesus’ willingness

5. Thank Jesus continually! Verse 17, Revelation 5

Praise Him and no one else!
King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever.

Sermon Scripture: 2 Kings 6:8-23

1. Determine to live and work within the foreknowledge of God. Verses 8-13

God knows and works accordingly!
Knowledge and determination are not the same thing!
God reveals to Christians through the Bible the Truth we need to work within His will and foreknowledge.

2. Do nothing out of fear! Verses 14-16

Develop Faith! We have the strongest army!
Depend upon love! RELY on it!
Draw strength from God through His Word!

3. Open your eyes! See the true situation! Verse 17

More for us than there are with them!
Pray for God to open the eyes of others around you!
You are surrounded! But those who have surrounded you are surrounded as well!

4. Believers live by faith and God intercedes! Verses 18-21

People of God are blessed with spiritual sight!
Enemies of God are cursed with physical blindness at the prayer of Elisha!
Enemies of God have their sight restored after being led captive by Elisha to Samaria! They arrive alive as the hostage of a single prophet in the capital city of their enemy.

The Key to Happiness
