Sermon Scripture:  Mark 11:1-11
Picture
1.  Celebrate Jesus through obedience!
  • Go where Jesus sends.
  • Answer as Jesus tells you.
  • Give Jesus what he wants to use.
2.  Celebrate Jesus with understanding!
  • Jesus rides the colt in fulfillment of prophecy. Zechariah 9:9
  • Worshipers wave palm branches. Palm branch was used to signify adoration of authority.
  • Worshipers lay down their outer cloaks on the ground and show humility.
  • Worshipers shout to give praise! Psalm 118:25-26
3.  Celebrate Jesus personally!
  • Giving
  • Shouting
  • Humbling
4.  Celebrate Jesus Sincerely!
  • Short lived celebration
  • Shouts change to crucify instead of hosanna.

Get a Grip on the Greatness of Jesus

Mark 10:32-4
Picture
1.  Follow Jesus into His greatness! Verses 32-34
  • Consistent direction: Jerusalem
  • Clear Communication: 3 times he told them about his journey to the cross
  • Courage: He does lead the way
  • Conflicting values: Last are first and the first are last
  • Clarification of priorities: His teachings left them astonished and afraid, and then they are reminded of Jesus own death!
2.  Accept that the Glory of Resurrection Requires a Death. Verses 33-34
  • We are going!
  • Son of Man will be delivered to Jews and condemned, handed over to Gentiles, who will mock, spit, flog, and kill him.
  • Three days later He will rise again!
3.  Beware of seeking your Glory through association with Jesus. Verses 35-41
  • Jesus isn’t your source of “whatever we want to ask”!
  • Jesus isn’t your ticket to your own glory!
  • Jesus knew that close association with His glory would mean close association with His death! That is an honor that wasn’t there’s for the asking! It would require faith in action!
4.  Obey the teachings and example of Jesus! Verses 42-45
  • Reject the world model of greatness!
  • Reject authoritarian models of leadership!
  • Lead others by serving all people!
  • Jesus served all people and gave himself as a ransom!
So What?
  • Accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior today!
  • Follow him in all His glory throughout your life!
  • Repent of a “users” mentality toward Jesus!
  • Surrender to being a servant of others in Jesus’ name!

Satisfied with Jesus

Sermon Scripture:  Mark 6:31-44
Picture
1.  What keeps people from being satisfied with Jesus?
  • A lack of faith/unbelief.
  • A lack of opportunity/no preaching.
  • A lack of courage/no convictions.
  • A lack of preparation/no organization.
  • A lack of compassion/no ministry.
  • A lack of priorities/no time and financial resources for ministry.
2.  “Who is hungry?”
  • Ministry is Needed: It is possible to minister to others out of necessity and miss out on the blessings of being ministered to. Those that feed the flock must also eat!
  • Even the minister needs a time to rest, recover, and eat.
  • This requires time with Jesus, solitude, and rest.
  • This is difficult to achieve because of the ever present needs of the crowd.
  • The need always gets there before you do! You can never satisfy all needs, only Jesus can do that.
3.  “What is for Dinner?”
  • Ministry Defined: The Recipe for Christian ministry!
  • Motive: Moved with kindness/compassion
  • Metaphor: Sheep without a shepherd
  • Method: Jesus led in teaching them and tending to their needs.
  • Master: Give them Jesus by sharing the gospel through the material resources that Jesus gave you! Give them what you’ve been given by Him! SECRET INGREDIENT!!!
4.  “Who is invited?” Ministry Limited?
  • Time: For rest to end and return to work.
  • Place: Every man for himself in the desert. Jesus turns the parched place into a picnic in the park!
  • Relationship: The disciples anticipated communion with Jesus but not with the crowd.
  • Responsibility: The disciples are content for Jesus to send the crowd away, Jesus demands that the disciples feed them.
  • Cost:  Are we to spend what we have on these people?
5.  “Who is cooking?” Ministry Multiplied:
  • Jesus takes what the crowd has: Collected by the Disciples
  • Jesus organizes the crowd to receive what he gives: Administered by the disciples.
  • Jesus gives away what the crowd had: Blesses, Breaks, Gives: Distributed through the disciples.
  • Jesus satisfies the crowd through himself: The disciples collect the leftovers: More in the end that there was at the beginning! Plenty of Jesus for EVERYONE!
So What?
  • Acknowledge your hunger and ask Jesus to satisfy you! Get full!
  • Commit to Taste and eat while you prepare and serve others
  • Respond to the hunger pains around you! Who needs your help!
  • Serve them Jesus!

  • Son of Man: Daniel teaches he will rule in justice and judge with righteousness
  • Must Suffer many things
  • Be Rejected
  • Be killed and in three days rise again
  • Peter rebukes Jesus: He lost the mind of the Father and takes on the mind of Satan
3.  Calling: Jesus is the Lord who must be followed publicly; verses 34-9:1
  • If anyone: Open invitation to the crowd to become his followers
  • Come after me: Following Jesus is the first requirement of being  a follower of Jesus
  • Identify with Jesus and His words
          a)  Jesus will not publicly accept those who will not publicly accept him
          b)  The moment of truth is near. Vindication or Embarrassment
So What?
