Memory Verse: “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14, NIV

Scripture Reading: Matthew 5:13-16 _

Jesus puts His Light in the darkness of this world!

1. You are the light of Christ in this dark world! Matthew 5:13-16

Shine among men!
Shine through good deeds!
Let it Shine! The Light shines from another source! Undeniable, unquenchable, Unashamed!

2. You must avoid the Light Quenchers! Verse 15

Moral Perversion: Isa 5:20
Spiritual Perversion: John 3:19

3. You must receive the Light in order to be light! Verse 16

Jesus came to bring light to all people in darkness!

a. Prophecy Fulfilled: Isa 9:2; Mat 4:16
b. People Liberated: Isa 42:7, 16
c. Proclamation of Jesus’ Gospel: Isa 61:1

Jesus provides light to you that will change your life:

a. You will never walk in darkness: John 8:12; John 12:46
b. You will proclaim His message to others: Act 26:17-18
4. You must do good deeds: verse 16

Put off deeds of darkness! Rom 13:12; Ephesians 5:11
Put away your partnership with unbelievers! 2 Cor 6:14
Put on the light of God! Eph 5:8
Prepare for Jesus’ Return! 1 Thes 5:4
Praise Him who called you into the light! 1 Peter 2:9

So What??

LET IT SHINE!!!!!!!!

Trusting In Jesus

Scripture Reading: Luke 1:23-38

Memory Verse: "For no word from God will ever fail.” Luke 1:37

God’s promises often come in the midst of great personal difficulty/pain.
God’s power is highlighted when He fulfills difficult promises.
God’s personal promises to us always serve a “bigger picture” part of His story in history.
God works in powerful ways in times and places where people are willing to accept His revealed promises with faith. They trust Him to do what He says He will do.
The conception/birth/ministry of John the Baptist prepares the way for the conception/birth/ministry of Jesus.
Those who have great faith seem to also be characterized as people of great humility. Pride is a stumbling block on the journey of faith.
The virgin birth is clearly taught in the Bible and should be accepted in faith as the beginning of God’s salvation miracle that culminated at the resurrection of Jesus from the tomb.

Scripture Reading: Galatians 4:12-31

1. Shaped Like Paul: 12-18

Brother and Sisters, verse 12
Welcomed him even in illness, verses 13-14
Listened to him as a messenger from God, verse 14
Endure painful circumstances, verse 15
Accept hard truth, verse 16

2. Shaped Like Christ: verses 17-21

Zeal for Christ, not the teacher of Christ, verses 17-18
Desire the good thing all the time! Zeal for Jesus sustains you, not zeal for man’s approval!
Christ full formed in you! Verse 19
Requires the “labor pains” of ministry! Verse 19
Takes time and correction in the truth, verse 20

3. Shaped Like free Children: verse 22-31

Sarah

v. 22 Free Woman - Isaac
v. 23 Born of Divine Promise
v. 24 Figure of the Abrahamic Covenant
v. 26 Heavenly Jerusalem Above
v. 27 Rejoice that God gave children through Sarah!
v.28 Children of Promise by faith in Jesus
v. 30 Free Child
All Christian whether Jew or Gentile: Faith in Jesus Christ

Hagar

v. 22 Salve Woman – Ishmael
v. 23 Born of flesh, Man’s substitute plan
v. 24 Figure of Mosaic Covenant
v. 25 Earthly Mountain and City of Jerusalem
v. 27 Disadvantaged in the plan of God
v. 29 Children of the curse of slavery
v. 30 Slave Child
All non-Christians: No faith in Jesus Christ, depending upon religion and human effort
Jews, Judaizers, are truly children of the slave woman.

So What?

Find a godly mentor!
Ask God to give you zeal for truly good things, becoming like Jesus!
Ask God to keep you focused on living freely and passionately for Jesus and to avoid the mindset of a slave.
