Sermon Scripture: Philippians 1:12-21

All of your responses to your experiences should serve to advance the gospel!

1. Unchain the gospel by responding to Persecution with Perseverance! Verse 12-14

Experiences of hardship can advance the gospel but not necessarily your plan. Verse 12
The lost can become convinced because of your perseverance in persecution. Verse 13
The spiritual brothers become encouraged to boldness for Jesus! Verse 14

2. Unchain the gospel by responding to Pride with Perspective! Verse 15-18a

Some preach the gospel out of envy and rivalry. Verses 15, 17
But not all! Some preach from goodwill!
Motive is relatively insignificant as long as the gospel of Christ is preached.

3. Unchain the gospel by Rejoice that the gospel of Christ is preached! Verses 18b-21

Continue rejoicing
Confident in eventual deliverance from circumstances
Eager Expectation and hope of exalting Christ in life or death!
Living is Christ living through you
Dying is gaining the end of this work and the enhancement of Your experience of the Kingdom of God!

So What?

Share the gospel in all of your circumstances!
Overcome the discouragement of persecution and pride with perseverance and perspective!
Rejoice in the gospel!
Examine your motives!

A Word From God to His Church

Sermon Scripture: Philippians 1:1-2
Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, To all God’s holy people in Christ Jesus at Philippi, together with the overseers and deacons: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

God speaks to us through His written Word.

1. God speaks through those who are servants of God

servant - doulos - bondservant; wholly given to the will of another
to be at someone's beck and call
servants job is to communicate God's will and God's message

2. God speaks to ALL of His Holy people

Who? ALL the saints - everyone who is in Christ Jesus at Philippi
Application: to ALL the saints in Christ Jesus at Riverview, including leadership
saints - hagios - separated in Christ Jesus, set apart for God; to be exclusively His
all the saints need to show up and soak up the Word of God

3. God speaks in order to bring special gifts to His church

God wants to give a gift to Riverview Baptist Church, pastor, deacons and everybody included, but you can't have a gift unless you receive it from the Giver.
Grace and Peace to you from God - you receive the gift as God unfolds it as it is read - you cannot receive the gift if you are not there when it is proclaimed
Grace - charis - favor of God, loving kindness
Peace - eirēnē - tranquility, harmony, unity, rest, contentment
