Sermon Scripture: John 13:1-17

Jesus Sought Us to Make Us ___________. (13:1)

Jesus’ love for his own is _______________. “His hour had come to depart from the world.”
Jesus’ love for his own is _______________. “He loved His own who were in the world.”
Jesus’ love for his own is _______________. “He loved them to the end.”
Jesus’ love for his own is _______________. “He rose from supper… to wash the disciples’ feet.”

Jesus Served Us to Make Us _________________. (13:2-5; 12-16)

Jesus takes the form of a slave to set us an example for humble service. (2-7)
- To serve like Jesus served, we must know what Jesus knew. (3)
  - He knew who he was.
  - He knew where he came from.
  - He knew where he was going.
- To serve like Jesus served, we must do what Jesus did.
  - He served his _______________ who would believe in him.
    - The lesson: No one is _____________ serving.
  - He served a _____________ who would betray him.
    - The lesson: No one is ____________ being served.
Jesus is not commanding an action, but an attitude. (12-16)
- A servant is not greater than his master.

Jesus Saved Us to Make Us ______________. (13:6-11)

Unless the Lamb of God washes away your sin, you can have no part with him.
- It takes humility to serve others.
- It also takes humility to be served by Christ.
Footwashing symbolizes two spiritual truths:
- We need cleansing from ___________ sin. “The one who is bathed does not need to wash…”
- We need confession for ___________ sin. “Except for his feet, but is completely clean.”
When a person believes in Jesus, they are completely ______________ before God.
- Judas was washed but he was not cleansed. “You are not all clean.”
