• Read (Psalm 110). What does it mean for Christ’s enemies “to be made his footstool”?

• Take time to enter the Most Holy Place now and thank Him; worship Him; praise Him; enjoy His presence!

Two key elements in having intimacy with God are prayer and the Word.  We come to the Word of God not just to read it, but to understand what He is saying to us and to determine how He wants us to apply it to our lives; asking Him for the strength and will to apply it.  Finally, writing it down and sharing it with another so that they might also learn.

Study a short passage (couple of paragraphs) using an acrostic called: 2PROAPT.

• Pray – Ask the Holy Spirit to illuminate the passage and give you understanding. Remember, your goal is to meet with Him, so spend time in Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving and Supplication (ACTS) – the supplication is to understand the Word, to know Him and to enjoy Him!
  
• Preview – Read the passage quickly; what’s the topic or theme? Did you notice anything in particular?
  
• Read – Read the passage again more slowly.  Is God trying to tell you something?  Is there something you haven’t noticed before?  
  
• Observe – Read the passage again out loud.  Look at each word; each phrase; underline or mark key words; vary the emphasis you place on the words.  What is He saying to you; what is He asking you to do?  Paraphrase the passage in your own words.

• Review the Sunday School lesson and compare and contrast the Old Covenant (Heb 9:1-10) with the New Covenant (vs 11-14) until you are able to verbalize what the differences mean to you today.  How does it your affect worship?
• How are the promises of the new covenant “better” than those of the old covenant? (Heb 8:6)
• What does Christ accomplish by “appearing for us” in the presence of God?  (Heb 9:24-28; 7:25)

Apply the Word

• What does it mean for God to put His laws into our hearts and write them in our minds? (Heb 10:16) Have you experienced that?  How can you tell?  
  
• How can we hold fast our confession without wavering?  (Heb 10:23)  Pray that you will be able “stir up love and good works” in another this week.  (Heb 10:24)

• What will happen to those who continually receive good things from God, but who continually fail to produce good fruit? (V 8; John 15:5-6)

• How is love and service linked? (v 10; 1 Jn 3:10-19)

Apply the Word

• What does it mean to “flee” to God (v 18)?  Are you fleeing toward Him or away from Him? Why?
• How do you understand the term “hope” in this passage?  What does it represent?

The priests of the Old Testament, with all their human weaknesses, were merely foreshadows of our Perfect High Priest. So, before you begin, ask Him for understanding as you study - take time to focus on Him as He intercedes for you.
